Who does not know the difficulties with interfering edges in the working chamber of lathes/mill centers! This affects in the first instance collet chucks on the main and sub particularly at the usage of driven tools. The company Ortlieb has developed a new series of push type chucks Spannax® "DL Bayonet" which are characterised by reduced dimension and weight.
For instance was it possible to reduce the length of the established chuck size 65/KK6 from 110 mm to 105 mm and the diameter from 160 mm to 122 mm which corresponds to a reduction of 24%!
Another advantage is the fixed clamping head which is not generating an axial movement of the workpiece like draw back chucks. Thus there appear no axial forces when transfering the workpiece from the main to the sub spindle - therefore the spindle bearings are protected. The new DL Bayonet chucks have the same advantages as the known Spannax® clamping systems as µ-precise concentricity and quick changeable Rubber Flex® GT clamping heads. In addition the chucks are equipped with a mountable internal endstop for precise positioning of the workpiece.
The Spannax® DL Bayonet collet chuck is available in the following sizes at the moment: 42/KK5, 42/KK6, 42/Z140, 65/KK5, 65/KK6, 65/KK8. Further sizes are in preparation.
